A person of non-Japanese nationality who 1) has completed or is expected to complete 12 years of education abroad, 2) has taken the three subject tests of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) conducted by the Association of International Education, Japan - Japanese as a Foreign Language, Japan and the World, and Mathematics (Course 1) - in either Japanese or English and has obtained a score of 260 or more in the Japanese as a Foreign Language test (excluding writing section) and a total score of 260 or more in the other subject tests, 3) and has taken TOEFL and submitted the score, is eligible to apply for the entrance examination. Please write "Request for an application guidebook for foreign students" in red on the front of the envelope to the university, and enclose a return envelope (33 24cm in size, self-addressed and with a \270 postage stamp affixed).
When you send a request from abroad, please enclose a self-addressed envelope in the same size with "international return postage stamps" worth the postage for a 250g air letter.

Students of the foreign universities that are under student exchange contract with Hitotsubashi University can be enrolled as exchange students (non-regular student) for usually one year. For exchange students, Japanese language ability equivalent to "second-grade" qualification of the Japanese Proficiency Test given by the Association of International Education, Japan (or by The Japan Foundation when the test is given outside Japan) is desirable. Applications are made through the student exchange window of each university.

<Master's Course>

Foreign students applying to take the master's course are screened under Hitotsubashi University Graduate School's special screening system for students from abroad. The list of admission requirements is published in or around June every year. Entrance examination is conducted in February of the following year by the Graduate School of Economics, the Graduate School of Law and the Graduate School of Social Sciences. As for the Graduate School of Commerce and Management, Graduate School of Language & Society, and the Graduate School of International Corporate Strategy, the special screening system for foreign students does not apply to these schools. However, the Graduate School of Commerce and Management does conduct an entrance examination every September. The Graduate School of Language & Society conducts an entrance examination every February. The form for examination differs with each school. For details, check the list of requirements or the respective web sitel.

<Doctor's Course>

There is no special screening system for foreign students applying to take the doctor's course. Foreign applicants will be screened under the same system as Japanese applicants. The list of admission requirements is published in or around June every year, and entrance examination is conducted in September or in March of the following year (except for the Graduate School of International Corporate Strategy). Applicants should obtain the list of requirements by requesting it from each school. As the form of examination differs with each school, applicants should see the list for the school they wish to enter.

Applicants may obtain the application guidebook with the list of requirements (application forms) whether they are in or outside Japan. If you are applying for admission to the Graduate School of Commerce or the Graduate School of International Corporate Strategy, download the necessary part from Hitotsubashi University's Web site. If you are applying for admission to the Graduate School of Economics, the Graduate School of Law, the Graduate School of Social Sciences or the Graduate School of Language & Society, send for the necessary documents by enclosing postage stamps with your letter, addressed to Hitotsubashi University, at 2-1, Naka, Kunitachi-shi, Tokyo 186-8601, Japan. Be sure to specify the name of the graduate school (and the course, if any) you wish to take. If you are in Japan, the postage is 200 yen in all cases to obtain documents. If you are outside Japan, enclose stamps necessary for international return airmail weighing up to 120 grams.

(1)Application Requirements
An applicant must be one of those described below.

1. Foreign students whom the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Education Ministry) has requested Hitotsubashi University to accept at government expense.
2. Those whom the Japanese government or a government-affiliated organization (such as Japan International Cooperation Agency or Japan International Cooperation Center) has requested Hitotsubashi University to accept and who are considered especially suitable by the school concerned.
3. Those who passed an examination conducted by the Interchange Association (in Taiwan).
4. Those whom a foreign university has requested Hitotsubashi University to accept under an agreement with that university.
5. Those whom a foreign government or government-affiliated organization has requested Hitotsubashi University to accept (See Note 1).
6. Those whom a foreign university or research institute has requested Hitotsubashi University to accept and who are considered especially suitable by the school concerned (See Note 2).
7. Those who completed a master's course at a graduate school of Hitotsubashi University or who completed a doctor's course at such a school and wrote a doctorate thesis which passed examination and who, before doing so, had been admitted into the university under the Regulations for Special Screening of Foreign Students for Admission to the Master's Course at Graduate School.
8. Those doing independent research as a researcher at a foreign university or research institute.

[Notes]
(1) With reference to 5. above, an applicant must be someone who is on a scholarship from a public institution or who is certain to receive a scholarship from a public institution by the time he or she completes the procedure for admission.
(2) With reference to 6. above, an applicant must be someone who currently works for a foreign university or research institute (public or private).
(3) Once students complete their application procedure, the application documents submitted and the examination fee paid will not be refunded to them.
(4) Foreign research students do research at the university for no more than two years, as a rule.
(5) Foreign research students do not obtain a degree by working at the university.
