1. Advising
& Counseling for International Students

Student counseling is offered in the Advising and
Counseling Room (ACR) on the second floor of the LS/CSE Building
Open 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday through
Friday . The room is closed on some Wednesday afternoons and other
times due to Faculty Meetings, University events, etc. Please feel
free to drop in to discuss anything you wish about your stay in
Japan, whether it be study, daily life, human relationships, visa
questions or employment. In addition to counseling, ACR also helps
to introduce you to tutors and organizes seminars to get you acquainted
with Japan. Dr. Yokota is available for any psychological difficulties
you are experiencing. Please check the schedule and come on the
day when he is available. The contents of all discussions will be
kept strictly confidential. Counseling, when the university is closed,
will be held in the offices of each advisor.

2.Information
for Japanese Students at Hitotsubashi to studying Abroad
|
|
The number of Japanese students who wish to study
abroad has been on the increase. Hitotsubashi University has 19
affiliated universities overseas, and the University has been sending
approximately 40 exchange students to these universities each year.
We hold so-called, 'Overseas Study Fair' for Japanese students who
are interested in studying at affiliated universities. Moreover,
we plan events such as 'Panel Discussion by returnees' so as to
have prospective exchange students ready with thorough provisions.
Furthermore, in order to respond to the needs of students
interested in studying at foreign universities other than the affiliated
universities, we provide assistance for basic procedures such as
university selection, applications and letters of recommendation.
Also, we give advice in language qualifications such as TOEFL, GRE,
GMAT, IELTS, and CambridgeExams.

3.Lectures
and Seminars for Cross-cultural Understanding
|
|
Courses such as 'Understanding Foreign Students
and International Educational Exchanges', 'Japanese Business Culture',
'Seminar in Cross-cultural Experiences' and 'Nihon Jijo' are taught
by staffs of Advising and Counseling Room. Also, we invite guest
speakers in lectures given locally in the areas of Kunitachi and
Kodaira, such as 'Understanding Foreign Students' and 'Host Family
for Foreign Students' and promote Intercultural Understanding for
the local communities.

4.Bridges:
the University Magazine for Intercultural Understanding
|
|
'Bridges' is a University magazine
published twice a yea for promoting international exchange and cross-cultural
understanding It is a magazine in which students play the leading
role in the process of actual editing. We welcome your active participation
as editors, whether you are foreign or Japanese students. Your editing
experience will sure become an asset to your future career planning.

(1) Individual Tutors
Japanese students serve you as individual tutors for helping international
students with their studies. Tutors are available for undergraduate
international students for two years; and for exchange students,
research students and graduate students for one year. (However,
this tutor system is NOT available for those who have already studied
in a Japanese university as undergraduate, graduate or research
students more than one academic year) The university will cover
the expenses of the tutors for up to 120 hours per year. This tutor
system is also available for those who are in the second year of
masters/doctors programs working on theses or dissertations
up to 32 hours in total. The ACR will introduce you to a
suitable tutor and administers an orientation. Please contact ACR
in case your tutorial does not go well for reasons such as that
your tutor is too busy to meet on a regular basis or is unable to
help you with the field of your academic interests.
(2) Tutors at the
International Resource Room
In addition to individual tutors, there are tutors in the International
Resource Room available for international students on a drop-in
basis. Graduate students serve as tutors from 10:00am to 1:00pm
and from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday to proofread your
papers in Japanese or to offer advice for the field of your academic
interests. The names of tutors and their faculties, and the schedule
for availability are posted on the door of the International Resource
Room.

6.Orientation
for New International Students
|
Orientations for new foreignl students are held in April and
October every year. During these orientations, information is
provided regarding student life at Hitotsubashi, visa and student
registration procedures, university facilities and community services.
. Please attend an orientation since the information provided
then will be greatly helpful for your student life at Hitotsubashi.
Schedules will be announced on the bulletin board of the Student
Exchange Division.

7.International
Resource Room
|
|
International Resource Room is located on the first
floorof the LS/CSE Building. Foreign language magazines and university
catalogs, course discriptions, and brochures of the affiliated schools
are available. English language newspapers and other useful information
about upcoming events and activities are available in the Student
Exchange Lounge on the first floor of the LS/CSE Building. Graduate
students serve as tutors at the International ResourceRoom for proofreading
your Japanese essays and for giving advice about studying at Hitotsubashi.

Explore Japan Tours
Tours (one night, two days) are planned twice a year to offer opportunities
to visit different parts of Japan. The trips are made in groups
of 10 to 30 normally, and draws will be held if there are too many
applicants. Students pay about 5,000 yen.
Information Factory Tours and Explore Japan Tours
will be posted on the bulletin board of the Student Exchange Division.
